Regional Outreach Eating Disorder Program

 

Regional services and regional resource clinician

 

Within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team, the Regional Resource Clinician provides in-direct services to the North-western Ontario communities. The Regional Resource Clinician travels through out the region on a regular basis as necessary.

This clinician will also provide direct clinical services at the Eating Disorder Program – St. Joseph’s Care Group to local and regional clients.

Some of the services provided by the Regional Resource Clinician are the following:

 

  1. Clinical case consultation to regional practitioners
  2. The Regional Resource Clinician or another designated program staff member will provide a regional practitioner with clinical consultation regarding an individual and family the regional practitioner is working with in their community.

    Case consultation can be completed via telephone, videoconference or in person. Also case consultation can include other members of the Eating Disorder Team as determined.

    A Case Consultation can be completed by contacting the Regional Resource Clinician.

     

  3. Coordinate regional individual and family assessment
  4. A one-day comprehensive assessment is set up at the Regional Centre for the client and family once the program has received a referral. If the client or family is unable to travel to the Regional Centre in Thunder Bay the use of video conferencing will be discussed. The assessment includes the client meeting separately with a Clinician or consulting Psychologist, Dietician and, as required the family with the Family Therapist.

    Upon completion, the team members conducting the assessment will meet the client and family to provide feedback and recommendations. An assessment report will be forwarded to the referring Regional Practitioner.

     

  5. Provide education and training to regional practitioners
  6. This program is mandated to provide education and training to regional practitioners regarding Eating Disorder treatment. The Regional Resource Clinician continues to partner with members of the North-western Ontario Communities to provide education and training according to the needs of the community. The Regional Resource Clinician will also assist communities to provide public education and prevention of Eating Disorders.

     

  7. Assist with individual referral to residential and inpatient treatment
  8. This program is mandated to provide Regional Client Assessments for admission to Residential and Inpatient Eating Disorder Treatment in Ontario. Therefore following the comprehensive assessment the recommendation may be for the client to attend more intensive treatment. The Regional Resource Clinician will coordinate this service for the client.

  9. Facilitate regional use of audio and video conferencing
  10. The Regional Resource Clinician will coordinate the use of audio and video conferencing communication for direct client service and in-direct regional services.

     

  11. Provide information on eating disorders
  12. The program will provide information to North-western Ontario communities on eating disorders, body image, nutrition and other related issues.

     

  13. Connect regional practitioners with other provincial and national links
  14. The program will connect you with the Provincial and National services and organizations.
